Advancing English Education in the AI Era: Department of English Education UNIPMA Successfully Hosts the 5th ELITICS International Seminar
The Department of English Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), successfully organized The 5th Seminar on English Education, Literature, and Linguistics (ELITICS) 2026 on Monday, July 27, 2026. Conducted virtually via Zoom Meeting, the international seminar brought together lecturers, researchers, teachers, university students, and education practitioners to discuss current issues surrounding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.
Carrying the theme "Artificial Intelligence in Education: Innovation, Ethics, and Digital Transformation," the seminar served as an academic platform for exchanging ideas and research findings related to the opportunities and challenges of AI in language education and beyond. The event covered four major areas of interest: English Education, English Literature, English Linguistics, and English Translation.
The seminar featured three distinguished keynote speakers from Indonesia and Uzbekistan. The first keynote speaker, Rimajon Sotlikova, Ph.D., from New Uzbekistan University and Webster University Tashkent, Uzbekistan, shared ithe beneficial AI tools for research writing. The second keynote speaker, Dr. Wardani Dwi Wihastyanang, M.Pd. from Universitas PGRI Jombang, discussing the urgent need to redefine educators' roles in response to global disruptions, rapid technological progress, and the evolving demands of the modern workforce. Meanwhile, the third speaker, Dr. Fitra Pinandhita, M.Pd. from Universitas PGRI Madiun, presented practical insights into the implementation of AI for literacy and numeracy in digital education era.
Throughout the seminar, participants actively engaged in discussions and exchanged ideas on how artificial intelligence can be utilized responsibly to enhance educational quality while maintaining academic integrity and ethical standards. The interactive question-and-answer sessions reflected the participants' enthusiasm and growing interest in AI-driven educational innovation.
The successful implementation of ELITICS 2026 demonstrates the Department of English Education's commitment to fostering academic collaboration, promoting research dissemination, and responding to the rapid development of educational technology. Through this annual international seminar, the department continues to strengthen its role in advancing English language studies and preparing educators and researchers to address the challenges and opportunities of the digital era.
